British and American Government

 

There is a presidential system of government in the United States of America.

The President is elected by the people for a period of four years.

The President is the Head of  State and has a lot of power.

The Congress of the United State is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The members of Congress are elected by the electorate, that is the people in the 50 states.

 Britain is a constitutional monarchy. Te Queen is the Head of State, but she has no real power. She has the power to appoint the Prime Minister who is generally the leader of the majority party in Parliament. He/ She chooses his/ her ministers who form the Cabinet. Parliament is made up of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

The members of the House of Commons are elected by the people, while the members of the House of Lords are not elected at all.

 

 

United States of America

 

The United States of America is made up of 50 States.

Its landscape is varied; there are forests, deserts, mountains and plains.

The most important rivers are the Mississippi and the Missouri.

The United States is also rich in lakes; the Five Great Lakes in the north of the country. The United States has a population of about 250 Million people of different races and Origins.

The American flag has 13 stripes

and 50 stars.
